MTV did something that shocked the hell out of me a few weeks ago. They actually ran a decent show. Better than decent. It’s fucking great. And no, I’m not talking about The Real World/Road Rules Pottery Competition or the new reality show about Lindsey Lohan’s liver.
It’s a sketch-comedy show called Human Giant, and is as funny as anything I’ve seen in years. Which is what shocks the hell out of me. Since when did MTV play anything other than teen reality shows, TRL and music videos?*
Regardless, it’s funny. Like, balls-crushing funny. Happy ending with a donkey punch funny. Gallagher funny**. It’s so funny, in fact, that it makes me reconsider that time I said that Charles Nelson Reilly was the funniest man in history. Now I’m not so sure. I mean, I’m not willing to concede that one just yet, but maybe in a few episodes.
Human Giant airs on MTV, Thursdays at 10:30pm.
*Music Videos are played from 1:00-1:30am on every third Saturday, in case you thought I was making that last part up.
**Fine, I admit it, I like Gallagher. But only because I have a grudge against melons and it amuses me to no end to see them tortured on-stage. I think he makes jokes too, but I use that time to catch up on my romance novels.

Thanks for the music video clarification…it’s been a dog’s year since I’ve actually seen one of those on MTV.
On the funny note, you should check out Bill Envall’s latest “15 degrees from cool.” It’s kind of blah at the beginning, but once he gets to the fighter pilot story the whole thing is worth it.
I saw your comment on the human giant blog about Frankenstein coming to guitar hero 2 on the 360. I totally fucking agree with you. That song is tizz-nite.

Anyway, remember The State? It was the sketch comedy show with the guys from Reno 911 (which I loathe). It was funny as hell. I WANNA DIP MY BALLLLS IN IT

Oh yeah…Human Giant is sooo fucking funny. I love it. I hope MTV appreciates it and it doesn’t disappear.
@Kerstin- It’s a shame, isn’t it? I’m not sure how you can have TRL on everyday, and the MTV Music Video Awards, when your channel doesn’t even play videos. As for your recommendation, I’m not an Engvall fan, but I’ll give that routine a try anyway. Even Carrot Top can crack a funny joke once every 6 years…
@MG- I hear you, man. CNR on the match game is the shizzy! Dawson and Rayburn were likewise awesome, if only because they were some horny fucking dudes. Rayburn was always hitting on the female contestants, while Dawson was making the dirty jokes. And his sideburns! A work of art.
You’re right about the State, wrong about Reno 911. Maybe you’re thinking of the police drama starring Janet Reno, “Reno 911.” That show was worth loathing. The Reno 911 on Comedy Central is one of my favorite shows.
@Fazer - Clearly, you are thinking of the version of “Frankenstein” by N’Sync or whatever boy band you listen to, because your rendition of the song was just plain wrong. You missed a Duh in the middle, and added two at the end. Sigh…..there’s just no appreciation for Albino Rockstars anymore….

Linc… you are sooo wrong. There is absolutely no evidence that Carrot Top has ever been funny (even when dubbed over into Japanese).
Engvall doesn’t always make me laugh, but when he does, I really, really laugh.
